Band in Seattle: Live debut

Nicholas Russel Band

Year: 2012

Runtime: 00:32:44

The Nicholas Russell Band plays melodic rock with funk grooves and sticky hooks. Nicholas’ songs arise from personal relationships, the ups and downs of a struggling musician, and the many trials of being human. Nicholas Russell, a singer/guitarist/flute player, was born and raised in Seattle. He makes his living composing commercial music for television, radio, sports stadiums, and web videos. For the Nicholas Russell Band, he assembled a crew of A-list, Seattle veterans including Jon Bayless (Heart), Mark Cardenas (Morris Day & The Time), Geoff Saddler (Widow), and Alexis Ames (Echoes). Their performance on “Band In Seattle” includes 13-year-old Caspian Coberly on lead guitar for two numbers. Young Mr. Coberly is already an inspiring musician, playing well beyond his age.

    Big World Breaks

    Year: 2013

    Runtime: 36 min

It all began when the world-famous Seattle-based breaking crew, the Massive Monkees, invited Aaron Walker-Loud (Big World Breaks founder, drummer and director) to provide music at break dancing competitions and jams in the early 2000’s. Putting together a team for such events took a need for players with versatility, power and improvisation skills. Walker-Loud dug deep into the funk, soul, jazz and world music communities to build the right crew for the job; many of whom are alumni of the nationally acclaimed Seattle jazz programs at Garfield and Roosevelt High School. For this performance, Big World Breaks consists of Mikaela Romero (vocals & percussion), Darrius Willrich (keys and b.g. vocals), Ariel Loud, (alto sax), Naomi Siegel (trombone), Tobi Stone (flute & tenor sax), Daniel Rapport (guitar), Camilo Estrada (bass), Ival Galvez (percussion) and Aaron Walker-Loud (drums & M.D.). Big World Breaks now stands as a serious force to be reckoned with on stage and in the studio.

  • Bowlive: Live at the Brooklyn Bowl

    Soulive

    Year: 2010

    Runtime: 2 hr 12 min

In March of 2010, the members of Soulive hauled their instruments through the doors of a newly-opened warehouse-turned-music venue in Brooklyn that they would call home for the next two weeks. Eric Krasno, Alan Evans and Neal Evans called on a multitude of their closest friends and musical conspirators to join them over the next fortnight - creating an incredibly broad guest lineup that included some of the pre-eminent guitar virtuosos of our generation (Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes), some of the biggest names in hip-hop (Questlove, Rahzel), and some of the most inventive improvisational players in modern rock n' roll (Robert Randolph, Marco Benevento, Oteil & Kofi Burbridge). The Brooklyn Bowl quickly became the mecca for these very distinct yet like-minded musicians, where they returned night after night, donning the dress code for good times (bowling shoes) and sharing famous Blue Ribbon fried chicken. The common thread that tied together all these disparate ingredients quickly became palpable -- from the transcendental heartfelt improvisations onstage to the homey & playful atmosphere provided by the bowling alley, the Soulive residency was like nothing that had come before it because all of those diverse elements fused to ultimately bring the Soul to Brooklyn Bowl.
