  • Band In Seattle: Season 3 Episode 10

    Evening Bell

    Year: 2017

    Runtime: 23 min

There’s a song that Evening Bell plays, called “Dust Storm,” which says way more about their music than anything else. When one hears Evening Bell, it’s hard not to picture a tumble weed skimming around a desert somewhere in Tucson circa whenever John Wayne was a movie star. It’s vintage Americana at its finest, but with a dark and psychedelic twist – music fit for a ghost town overtaken by Saguaro cacti, and perhaps cows.

It all started when Nicky Anderson responded to Jonny Henningson’s call for a guitar player when they were teenagers, and Hounds of the Wild Hunt was born. Later Ryan Devlin joined the band, then Cary Davis, and this band’s raw, unadulterated garage rock came to be close to what it is today. They’ve been through a lot since those teenage years, including – but not limited to – changing their name from the Whore Moans to now Hounds of the Wild Hunt.

    Wild Powwers

    Year: 2016

    Runtime: 23 min

Wild Powwers has more oomph than Ws in their name. Jordan Gomes is a beast on bass, Lupe Flores is the human embodiment of a kick drum, and Lara Hilgeman manages to channel riot girl and soul diva at the same time. It’s dark and heavy and dirty and magical. The three of them bring in all kinds of influences, but it all still manages to sound like the same band in every song, somehow. This trio – no, trifecta – has the prolific songwriting chops and hardworking road mentality that it takes to make it as a band. They’ve got a unique sound, great attitudes, and songs that get lodged in the deepest, darkest bits of your brain.

    Runtime: 1 hr 26 min

Jonathan Jackson + Enation are considered one of the most dynamic rock bands in the music industry today. “Live From Nashville” is a 20 song release that captures the band’s passionate performance and visceral energy during their sold out show in Nashville, TN. The concert captures many anthemic fan-favorites like “Cinematic” and “Everything Is Possible”, along with covers from bands who have inspired their music from artists such as R.E.M., U2, Pearl Jam, and Radiohead. UK Songwriting Magazine’s review of the concert said, “The three-piece quickly demonstrate their impressive musicianship. With some of the dynamic power of Muse, they pack a sonic punch… The charismatic Jackson is an electric frontman. His passion is evident from the start and, together with his two bandmates, he has formed a musical tour de force... an extremely talented musician and his band blow the roof off.” The 90 minute concert film was produced by Hilasterion Records and directed by Timothy Hiehle. The music was mixed by GRAMMY® nominated producer Greg Archilla.

  • Pretend We're Dead

    L7

    Year: 2017

    Runtime: 1 hr 27 min

L7: Pretend We're Dead takes us on an all-access journey into the 1990's grunge movement that took the world by storm, and the band that helped define it as the genre of a generation. Culled from over 100 hours of vintage home movies taken by the band, never-before-seen performance footage, and candid interviews, L7: Pretend We're Dead is an engrossing time capsule told from the perspective of L7, these true insiders who brought their signature blend of grunge punk to the masses! Chronicling the early days of the band's formation in 1985 to their height as the 'queens of grunge,' the film takes a roller coaster ride through L7's triumphs and failures, providing never-before-discussed insight into the band's eventual dissolution in 2001. Formed by Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner-guitars/vocals, the band completed their lineup with the addition of Jennifer Finch on bass/vocals and Dee Plakas on drums. To highlight the fact that L7 was an all-female group, however, was to miss the point. "Our fans couldn't give a shit if we're women," Sparks says. "We did not set out to be an all-girl band. It just happened that way." Yet the "gender issue" would return time and again for the band; from shock jocks refusing to play "chick rock" to academics accusing the band of "incorrectly" embracing their feminism to hard rock press implying the band was merely riding a wave of "girl power" trendiness. Despite these obstacles, L7: Pretend We're Dead shows the thread of influence the band had not only on rock and roll but on future generations of women everywhere and is, at the end, a testament to the pioneering spirit of a band that refuses to take anything lying down. "They can't hear a word we said, when we pretend that we're dead" Also includes the infamous 1997 documentary "L7 The Beauty Process" that was directed by Krist Novoselic.

    Victoria Contreras

    Year: 2016

    Runtime: 23 min

Strings pour, horns soar and a refreshingly soulful voice takes center stage. You are suddenly transcended to 1962. You begin to sway to a familiar nostalgic sound. Then, the lyrics take over and a touch of modern instrumentation and production is unveiled. The sheer poetic relevance and honesty jolts you. Bold, bright, clever, incensed, dark, strong, silly, sad. This is not a sound from the 60's but the sound of today and tomorrow. Transfixed, you journey through this eerie world, and somehow you cannot seem to get enough. The album ascends, the final track arrives and yet you are already hitting repeat.
