    Animal Collective

    Year: 2009

    Runtime: 1 hr 41 min

A band and tour that require little introduction, we are extremely psyched to welcome the return of Animal Collective to Australia in December 2009. After a decade of music-making both in band and solo form, the Collective's cult truly exploded with the release of their ninth studio album, Merriweather Post Pavilion. Not even a year old, and the record has already come to be considered a classic of our time.

  • Live at the Enmore

    Gary Numan

    Year: 2011

    Runtime: 1 hr 51 min

For over 30 years, Gary Numan has moved effortlessly from one genre to another, all the while creating something instantly recognizable as his alone. In this spectacular concert we filmed in Sydney, he plays his entire 1979 album The Pleasure Principle, and it’s astonishing to remember that it was recorded with no guitars whatsoever. Today those same songs are delivered with a fierce determination, and it’s easy to see how the sheer symphonic power of those early chords lay the foundation for the industrial goth-metal of later songs like Jagged and Halo.

    Various Artists

    Year: 1999

    Runtime: 1 hr 25 min

Better Living Through Circuitry is a 1999 documentary directed by Jon Reiss about the Electronic Dance movement of the 90's. The documentary is considered the first full-length film that goes behind the Electronic Dance scene and uncovers the culture it has spawned. The film presented aspects of rave culture such as empowerment through technology, the DIY (do-it-yourself) ethic, and the flowering of a new spirituality embracing transcendence through sound and rhythm. A cross-section of the techno subculture is represented as ravers, DJs and musicians speak for themselves about their music and ideals. Produced by Cleopatra Pictures and Entertainment Group, presided by Cleopatra Records founder Brian Perera.

  • The Ringmaster General

    Dave Stewart

    Year: 2012

    Runtime: 1 hr 19 min

Dave Stewart is best known as the other half of Annie Lennox's Eurythmics. At the onset of MTV and the video age, Stewart wasn't as photogenic as his artistic foil. He still knows this, so he enlists the help of Diane Birch, Alison Krauss and Joss Stone to give his music a recognizable voice. Stewart himself sings in a low rumble that's powerful but too dark for commercial outlets and this solo album is clearly meant to reach a wide audience. The production is top notch and played and arranged so tightly that you can hear why others have required his services for decades. Like its predecessor, 2011's The Blackbird Diaries, The Ringmaster General was written and recorded in five days at his Blackbird Studios in Nashville, with a solid band of pros backing his every step. Joss Stone tears up "I Got Love." Diane Birch toys with Stewart on "Just Another Fall" and Alison Krauss adds her solemn harmonies to "Drowning In the Blues." Stewart handles himself well alone on "A Different Man Now" and with a group of backing vocalists on his celebration of his new home, "A New Song For Nashville."

  • Sting Jamaica 2003: The Greatest One-Night Reggae Show on Earth

    Various Artists

    Year: 2003

    Runtime: 2 hr 58 min

Since the first event back in 1984 Jamaica’s Magnum Sting Festival has truly established itself and lived up to its billing as ‘The Greatest One-Night Reggae Show on Earth’. Held each Boxing Day in Portmore, St. Catherine, Sting has become renowned as being the premier showcase for the best reggae acts which Jamaica has to offer.

Featuring primarily dancehall acts, the performers invariably rise to the occasion and it has been the scene of many memorable performances over the years. With its mix of both established and up-and-coming acts, Sting has been instrumental in launching many local and international careers – including those of Shabba Ranks, Beenie Man and Tiger.

The 2003 Sting Festival proved no exception, attracting as it did a host of stellar names both old and new. They included such established international reggae stars as the witty toaster Beenie Man and dancehall crooner and Jamaican heartthrob Sanchez.

Amongst the new acts featured on this double film Set are two of the most exciting reggae talents to emerge in recent years, the boisterous DJ Elephant Man and dancehall sensation Vybz Kartel.

Sting has often courted controversy, as it did in this year, when the concert was brought to a dramatic and premature end after an on-stage brawl between Ninjaman and Vybz Kartel, reactions to which are documented in the bonus footage.
