    Year: 2007

    Runtime: 59 min

Yelle is a French band founded by lead singer and namesake Yelle (Julie Budet) and GrandMarnier (Jean-François Perrier). A third member, Tepr (Tanguy Destable), joined the band before the recording of its debut album. Budet and GrandMarnier began working on music together in 2000. The band came to prominence when it posted an early version of the song "Je veux te voir" on MySpace in September 2005, which later reached the top five in France. The success of the song on MySpace attracted the attention of a record label, which set them to work on its debut album, Pop Up, which was released in 2007. The group's second album, Safari Disco Club was released in 2011.
Even though the group's songs are sung exclusively in French, they have enjoyed a significant following overseas in non-French-speaking countries

    Flume

    Year: 2013

    Runtime: 32 min

Prior to our event partnership with Hype Machine, we had never explored the idea of shooting a DJ. But after experiencing the up-and-comers who showed face at this year's Hype Hotel, you may see us venturing into the EDM scene more often. After last week's concert release featuring the stellar brothersome UK duo Disclosure, today we're bringing you to the opposite side of the globe for a taste of what Syndney, Australia's been dancing to - FLUME. His real name is Harley Streten, but his musical project suits his moniker precisely as his tone possesses the natural feel of an aquatic flow compacted by a dubby pulse.

During the I Guess I'm Floating/YVYNYL party, FLUME transported Hype Hotel on a swirling trip through his mind-bending beats and electronic mystique, all which can be heard on his debut, self-titled studio album, released late last fall. In our 30-minute concert capture, the young Aussie synth savant will alter your equilibrium, often making you wonder exactly what state of matter you're rushing through - be it water or atmosphere - it's electrifying.

  • Showgirl

    Kylie Minogue

    Year: 2005

    Runtime: 1 hr 49 min

On the one hand, pop musically speaking, worldbeaters such as Kylie Minogue are few and far between. Singers and performers of her stature and popularity rarely maintain their power for as long as she was able to. Her streaks of number one singles in both Australia and the U.K. are nearly insurmountable. And yet, on the other hand, her inability to really crack open the American pop market over the course of her career is a story that is heard all too often from groups hailing from nations as pop powerful as Australia and the U.K. Eventually, with the hugely successful "Can't Get You Out of My Head," Kylie would rattle the American pop psyche, reminding the rather insular scene that the bubbly girl who had first made waves with the 1987 cover of "The Loco Motion" had developed into a stylish, experienced, and able pop performer with a clear agenda — both musically and visually — and the chops to match. To focus on Minogue's American problem would only be looking at a small fraction of the larger story.
