Band In Seattle: Episode 218 Jupe Jupe and The Gods Themselves

Various Artists

Year: 2016

Runtime: 00:22:19

The Gods Themselves are reminiscent of the male/female vocals of talking heads built on a punk foundation, yet their music is a fluid, ever-evolving sound. Astra Elane’s newfound independence as a lead guitarist has led her to evolve into a confident, engaging front woman. While listening to the rhythmic punching of the drums and the laidback guitar styling, audiences can be found closing their eyes, and just grooving to the punk-pop melodies of The Gods Themselves.
My Young creates a characterization of himself in every performance. He and his band mates make up a quartet of cerebral musicians whose sound is self-described as “mournful dance, new wave music”. Young’s rich vocals are suggestive of a Depeche Mode sound, but then it stands on a foundation of heavy synth, rough guitar, and pounding drum lines. Coupled with Young’s pointed lyrics, Jupe Jupe has discovered a whole new sound for their Pacific Northwest audience.
