Straight No Chaser
The tradition of collegiate a cappella performance in the United States is a long one -- it was almost a century old when Straight No Chaser formed in 1996, becoming the first a cappella group on the campus of the University of Indiana. The group was first assembled by its leader, Dan Ponce, and won wild popularity on the campus and beyond, singing at professional sports games and competing in the National Championship of Collegiate A Cappella at New York's Carnegie Hall. As popular as the outfit was during its school days, its visibility increased dramatically after a brief reunion in 2006, when videos of old performances began circulating on YouTube. One particular performance, a wacky version of "12 Days of Christmas," arrived in many an inbox during the holiday season in 2007, and the band inked a deal with Atlantic Records. They soon set to work recording a proper debut, Holiday Spirits, the following year.

Live at Soundstage
Runtime: 45 minTrisha Yearwood could be considered a Triple Threat in the country music genre. Having garnered the trifecta of three Grammys, an Oscar-nominated song, and being the first female country singer to sell a million copies of her 1991 self-titled debut, she is indeed the marker of success to which all country female singers aspire. As a Garth Brooks protge, Yearwood began her career singing backup on his 89 debut. Appearing again on Brooks follow-up, No Fences, soon she was sought out by MCA who released her self-titled debut. More than a decade later with nine blockbuster albums and a string of chart-topping singles under her talented belt Yearwood returns with her 10th album, Jasper County. The album will premiere in September 2005.
Yearwood joins the Soundstage ranks, bringing with her a few special guests. Launching the show is Billy Currington, who performs the title track to his forthcoming sophomore album, Doin Somethin Right, which will see its release in October 2005. The trio Sugarland follows him. Performing songs from 2004s Twice The Speed Of Light, the talented Jennifer Nettles, Kristen Hall, and Kristian Bush are a fine lead in to the highlight of the show. Yearwood takes the stage performing some of her finest hits, including her very first single, Shes In Love With A Boy, Xxxs And Oooos (An American Girl) from 95s Thinking About You, and the Diane Warren-penned How Do I Live.
Runtime: 55 minMannheim Steamroller Christmas Live is a set of Christmas favorites from the group’s best-selling Christmas albums. Mannheim Steamroller creator and composer Chip Davis has been recognized with 19 gold, eight multi-platinum and four platinum records and the group is the #1 Christmas music artist in all of history. The group’s signature sound, characterized as “classical music meets rock and roll”, established a distinctive new genre. While Mannheim Steamroller’s music is uniquely moving by itself, Christmas Live captures the experience, sights and sounds of the group live in concert with this holiday release. The beloved holiday performance by some of the most talented musicians today and an intense multimedia presentation results in a powerful and emotional Christmas experience. This 56-minute Christmas concert features many favorite Mannheim Steamroller Christmas classics. “Joy to the World" perhaps best epitomizes the distinctive Mannheim Steamroller sound: powerful synthesized melodies and harmonies, an intense drive and pathos, and skillful ornamentation. The accompanying fireworks on a huge, over-stage screen add a striking visual dimension to the song. Several Renaissance-inspired numbers like "In dulci Jubilo" and "Wassail, Wassail" showcase unusual Renaissance instruments and are paired with a rich, on-screen portrayal of a Renaissance feast. The instrumental, theatrical, and multimedia performances are completely evocative of the Spirit of Christmas. Mannheim Steamroller’s Christmas concerts have become a holiday tradition, much like decorating the tree, hanging stockings and exchanging presents. Christmas Live has become a permanent part of any Christmas celebration.
