Live at The Music Hall Of Williamsburg

Beirut

Year: 2009

Runtime: 00:37:03

Summer 2011 saw the release of The Rip Tide on Condons own Pompeii Label, Beiruts first proper LP since The Flying Club Cup. Written in isolation during a snowy upstate winter, the album marked a stark change in emotional direction, that is to say, inward. Reflecting less on the travels and travails borne of the wanderlust struck musician, instead, The Rip Tide has crystallized the sounds of Beiruts past into a cohesive and remarkable whole, all while maintaining the unmistakable aesthetic that has brought them around the world, and home again.

    Aunt Martha

    Year: 2012

    Runtime: 29 min

Aunt Martha is the creative vessel of New England based songwriter and vocalist Tim Noyes. 2011 was their busiest year yet, releasing five recordings, playing over 150 shows including Bonnaroo, and opening for Deer Tick, Blind Pilot and others. Like the band itself, the music tends to fluctuate. Sometimes itʼs quiet and sentimental, stripped down to nothing more than acoustic guitar and vocals. At other times, particularly on the most recent full length album Norway, ME, it becomes a lush wall of sound filled by layered vocal loops, electric guitars, makeshift percussion and synthesizers.

  • Live At The ATO Cabin

    Alberta Cross

    Year: 2012

    Runtime: 14 min

One wouldn't expect to find a cabin on Wall Street, but lo and behold, that's exactly where we were able to catch up with the English duo, Alberta Cross in our latest session. It's a freaky sort of space, a place where bare, industrial stairways suddenly lead to a surprising, rooftop abode that really hammers home a serene, upstate vibe. Right there on Wall Streetkind of an appropriate setting for a band that dabbles in creating serene and rustic (OK, their recent album Songs of Patience also rocks) tunes from their newfound hometown, NYC.

  • Live at The Music Hall of Williamsburg

    Trail Of Dead

    Year:

    Runtime: 44 min

Recently, the band released The Century of Self on their own independent Richter Scale imprint. Rich, sophisticated, complex, yet ultimately articulate; Century of Self is deep in scope, straining themes of mythology, mysticism, and nature through its' collection of anthemic, hard rock.

Hence the dramatic undertaking in bringing these epic songs to life in the live setting. And thank god for it... The band's unwavering commitment to doing The Century of Self justice translated into a kinetic kind of performance; one that sent an undeniable synergy buzzing 'bout the building the moment the band walked on stage. With fists in the air, sporadic mosh pit eruptions, and even a bit of crowd surfing (by audience and band members alike).

  • Band in Seattle: Live debut - Concert 101 B

    Big Sur

    Year: 2013

    Runtime: 40 min

Big Sur is a band from Seattle and Bellingham in Washington State. They play sad, dark, pretty, often orchestral, folk songs, with a New Orleans funeral procession sense of joy. The songs are often painfully autobiographical, and sometimes literary. There is the influence of Frank Black in there, howling and playing with dark themes that should hurt more than they do. There is the feel of Bonnie Prince Billy, finding comfort in the most intimate and fragile moments and letting the words break like heirloom porcelain figurines. But, the songs carry hope and a nod to the Southern-Gothic characters of old country. The band members are Jake Hemming (lead songwriter, vocals, guitar), Derek Jackman (drums), Mike Bergstrom (electric/upright bass), Steve Norman (pedal steel, trumpet), and Kat Bula (violin, vocals).

Empress Hotel is a pop ensemble based in New Orleans whose sound is inspired by both one hit wonders of the '70s and legends such as Prince, Sparks, and Roxy Music. Franz Ferdinand

    Year: 2009

    Runtime: 53 min

When they released their self-titled debut album in the UK in January 2004, Franz Ferdinand were hailed as the first great new band of the year.
Unbelievable hype swirled around the new Scottish four-piece as they burst into the charts with their unmistakable debut. Their debut single garnered many pleasing reviews and made the band one of the most talked about of the year. With heavy-guitars and loveable beats, this is essentially post-pop melodic fun with hints of rock from the punk scene - all mashed together in a rebellious, yet fun-loving, way.

For the true Mutemath fan, this film includes the entire performance, complete with moody stage lighting and crowd surfing by the bandmates themselves. The actual music is the highlight here, though, since a textured record like Armistice isn’t the easiest thing to re-create on-stage. As a result, Armistice Live isn’t your typical fans-only concert album; it’s a testament to Mutemath’s strength as a band, and arguably their most interesting release to date.

  • Live at M Studio

    Thrice

    Year: 2011

    Runtime: 19 min

Southern Californian rock outfit Thrice have a decade long reputation for unleashing enthralling bouts of electric aggression and emotion, furiously flung from the heart without much care of consequence. The band's eighth release Major/Minor is as exciting as ever; crunchy yet melodic, with Dustin Kensrue's raspy siren overlaying an unexpected, grungy foundation. Turns out these guys are full of surprises, as we recently learned on a golden, Fall afternoon at a pristine photography studio on the west side of Manhattan. With late afternoon light painting rusty tones of orange and yellow on Dustin and guitarist Teppei Teranishi, the brothers Thrice traded electricity for more acoustic means, cutting three of Major/Minor's songs down to the mighty emotional footwork the band rely upon to truly take their music places. The result is a set that's stunning in its beauty and simplicity, yet every bit as enticing as what you have come to rely on Thrice to deliver over the years.

  • Live At First Avenue

    Trampled By Turtles

    Year: 2013

    Runtime: 1 hr 14 min

With six albums to their credit and a word-of-mouth reputation that draws legions of die-hard fans to their must-see-to-believe live shows, Minnesota roots music hybrid Trampled by Turtles finally release their first ever, highly anticipated live concert recording – Live at First Avenue. Captured over 3 sold-out nights at the legendary Minneapolis rock venue, First Avenue, celebrating TBT's 10th Anniversary in 2013, this video features songs from all six of Trampled by Turtles' albums, including fan favorites like “Codeine”, "Wait So Long" "Midnight on the Interstate" and TBT's version of the Pixies’ classic, “Where is My Mind?”. While they never set out to be a “bluegrass” band, the band employs the same time-honored tools of the trade – guitar, acoustic bass, banjo, mandolin and fiddle – as their ‘grass-fed country cousins'. But their soul-deep differences in influences, attitude and attack, from their quicksilver, deadly accurate picking to their lonesome, hauntingly spare ballads, make for a very different musical beast indeed.

  • Live at McCarren Park

    Deerhunter

    Year: 2008

    Runtime: 47 min

Oftentimes at live shows, musicians of the indie-rock variety get so caught up in all the strut and swagger that goes along with rock music that they forget to be fun. Deerhunter are not that, as evidenced by their performance here at McCarren Park Pool. On the contrary, front man Bradford Cox is a pretty damn funny guy. And while he may look like a young Thurston Moore without the flowing hair, Deerhunter opt out of your typical art-rock arrogance and instead go for a sonically sound show complete with a driving rhythm section and extra catchy guitar riffs. There's even a nutty vocal spot from Cole Alexander of The Black Lips. Top it off with some psychedelic effects and a pretty rhythm guitarist in cheerleader garb, and you've got yourself a Deerhunter performance that's way too fun to miss out on
