Harvey's eerie rock, Kate Bush's artsy pop, Goldfrapp's flirty electro-pop. But the music of Florence & the Machine is far from derivative, thanks in part to the wealth of musicians Welch has recruited to back her up. Gathering an array of artists has allowed her to delve into various genres, from the garage rock of hit debut single "Kiss with a Fist" to soulful singer-songwriter material and even upbeat dance-pop. The rich combination proved successful as her 2009 debut, Lungs, quickly rose up charts around the world, including the U.S. Billboard 200.

Runtime: 34 minHailing from South London, Florence Mary Leontine Welch writes songs that occupy the same confessional territory as gossip-loving, genre-bending contemporaries like Amy Winehouse, Kate Nash, Adele, and Lily Allen and the moody, classic art rock of Kate Bush, blending pop, soul, and baroque arrangements into a sound that earned the young artist considerable buzz in 2007. Managed by the Camden-based DJ duo the Queens of Noize and backed by a rotating lineup of musicians, Florence + the Machine released their debut single, "Kiss with a Fist," on the Moshi Moshi label in June 2008. The critically acclaimed debut album Lungs followed in July 2009 and quickly became one of the year's most popular releases in the U.K., where Florence charted four Top 40 singles in less than 12 months. The songs gathered steam in other parts of the world, too, particularly in America, where "Dog Days Are Over" peaked at number 21, went platinum, and even earned its own performance on the TV show Glee. Lungs was reissued the following year in a two-disc package entitled Between Two Lungs, and included a bonus 12-track disc that featured live versions and remixes. That same year, Florence + the Machine returned to the studio with producer Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Adele) to begin work on their second full-length outing.

Bat For Lashes
Runtime: 1 hr 13 minBrighton, England's Bat for Lashes is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Natasha Khan. The Pakistan-born Khan pulls from her art school education and her experience producing multimedia installations when it comes to writing songs. She also cites Steve Reich and Susan Hiller as influences, while echoes of Björk and Siouxsie Sioux are heard throughout Bat for Lashes' mystical indie rock sound. Bat for Lashes' first single, "The Wizard," was digitally released by DiS, and issued as a 7" on Khan's own She Bear imprint in early 2006. That fall, with "Trophy" burning up the BBC indie rock chart, the Fur & Gold LP arrived in the U.K. in September. The album was released a year later in the U.S. to much critical acclaim. Bat for Lashes' ambitious 2009 album, Two Suns, revolved around the concept of Khan and her blonde, hedonistic alter ego Pearl, and featured a duet with Scott Walker.

The pseudonym comes from Chedid's first initial but also refers to the similar sounding French word aime, meaning love. The character ‑M- is a superhero, noted for having a playful nature, and recognized for his flamboyant costumes (primarily monochrome suits with slim trousers and long jackets with upward pointed collars) and hair styled into the shape of an M.
-M- gained international exposure through his recording of the song "Belleville Rendez-vous" for the soundtrack of the 2003 Sylvain Chomet animated film The Triplets of Belleville in both French and English. The song, with lyrics by Chomet and music by Benoit Charest, was nominated for a 2003 Academy Award. The music video for "Belleville Rendez-vous" uses both a live-action depiction of ‑M- and an animated depiction incorporated into footage from the film.

Hailed as "the new Arcade Fire" in Rolling Stone magazine, the band's original lineup comprised singer/guitarists Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir and Ragnar Þórhallsson, guitarist Brynjar Leifsson, keyboardist Árni Guðjónsson, bass player Kristján Páll Kristjánsson, and drummer Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson. Their debut album, My Head Is an Animal, was released in Iceland by Record Records in the fall of 2011.
