The British Invasion
The British Invasion was massive. America, for a brief period, and one that really hasn’t been repeated, went crazy for all things British. It was youthful excitement, Swinging Sixties, and it was through the music that you got the access. The incredible success of the Beatles led to record companies encouraging more of the same. They wanted to emulate that success with more British bands crossing over the Atlantic and having that huge impression on the culture there. A lot of these British bands came from post-war austerity. America looked so glamorous. It wasn’t just that the sun of California and the bustle of New York… it was a really successful open place where they felt like anybody could succeed. And because America wanted them to succeed, everybody was a winner.
