Dizzy Gillespie & Sonny Stitt live at Cirque Royal

Dizzy Gillespie & Sonny Stitt live at Cirque Royal features a historic concert from one of the founding fathers of bebop. The 1958 concert features Dizzy working eloquently within the small combo structure of a quintet including such influential musicians as sax player Sonny Stitt and bassist Ray Brown. In the beginning of the 1940s, Gillespie already collaborated with jazz greats as Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk and Kenny Clarke. Dizzy Gillespie led his own big band from 1946 to 1950. In that period of his career, he was a pioneer in the jazz scene, with music that combined jazz, Latin American and African American music. Gillespie wrote many jazz classics such as ‘Manteca’, ‘A Night in Tunisia’ and ‘Con Alma’.
